Our beloved Pike Place Market is going to get bigger and better! According to the Market’s official website, the project known as MarketFront “is a low-rise, mixed-use development that will provide parking for the Market and the waterfront, low-income housing for seniors, expanded social services, and additional retail and restaurant space. The MarketFront will also provide 30,000-square-feet of public open space and views of Elliott Bay, while creating a critical new connection between Pike Place Market and the new Central Waterfront that emerges after the demolition of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.” But don’t worry; the existing marketplace will not (and cannot) be significantly altered by the expansion. What will change is that we’ll now have access to an even bigger variety of food/drink in the form of beer, chocolate, biscuits, and potentially a seafood restaurant. YUM.
