We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, Seattle is hot right now, like “The Man” at Dixie’s BBQ hot. Our economy is booming and we’ve landed ourselves in a classic supply and demand scenario. The number of homes on the market is dropping, demand is still high as ever, so prices are climbing (but not at an alarming rate).
Our own president, OB Jacobi, was quoted in a recent Puget Sound Business Journal article about this very topic saying, “During the holidays we usually see a drop in home buyers, but this year they’re remaining engaged later than usual.”

Over 80 Windermere agents gathered at a workshop on December 4 to learn more about working with foreign home buyers. The rise in international home buyers is a trend that we have been following for some time. However, there is always something more to learn and we look forward to hearing from multiple experts to increase our knowledge.
Windermere agents regularly attend events similar to this in order to keep up to date with rising trends. As highlighted in a recent Trend Report: The Rise of International Home Buyer, Chinese buyers are drawn to the Puget Sound area due to job opportunities, education, and even pop culture. Windermere Eastside agents attending these events are more prepared for the area’s growing international market.
Today, Sbucks opened their first Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room on Capitol Hill in all its 15,600 SQFT glory. Reserve happens to be their highest-end coffee, only available in 800 out of 21,000 stores globally. Before it was roasted in Kent, now it happens right here and is the only coffee served… with eight different brewing methods.
Besides coffee and roasting, it’s also part pilot project, pizza restaurant, museum, and obviously, a new tourist attraction. Tom Douglas, (the man, the myth, the legend,) is making some serious moves lately – Dahlia Bakery is in charge of all the sweets, sandwiches, and salads here and Serious Pie will be served for lunch and dinner. Oh, and there’s a full cocktail bar. What doesn’t this place have? Apparently you can also rent the lower space for parties and weddings. In the next five years they’re looking to open 100 more of these new Reserve-only cafes all over the globe.

The Hainsworth Mansion is a Seattle Landmark property and since it has its own name, you know it’s going to be good. This mansion would be cool even without them, but tack on views of Elliot Bay, the Cascade Mountains, and our beloved Seattle Skyline, “cool” is basically an insult. It also happens to be the perfect place for intimate gatherings and lavish parties. Epic.

3D photography is quickly becoming the “next big thing” in the real estate world because why would anyone want to see in 2D when they can see in 3D? Matterport, a West Coast company, is someone we haven’t stopped hearing about and their Model is quite simple. The Matterport Pro 3D Camera is placed in multiple positions throughout a space and then rotates itself to gather data in 360 degrees. An iPad is used as a remote control and stores the data, which you can upload after the Model is processed and share it online.
Not only can you virtually walk through a listing, you can do it sitting in the comfort of your own home in nothing but your knickers. If you’re a real estate agent, we definitely recommend snagging one of these before they’re the status quo.

Everyone stop what you’re doing and take a moment to appreciate the fact that Shiro Kashiba has turned his back to retirement and is headed towards Pike Place Market for a new sushi restaurant! Recently the Pike Place Market Historical Commission unanimously approved plans for his restaurant located at 86 Pine. The sushi restaurant is set to open by summer 2015 if all goes to plan (which we sincerely hope does).
You might be wondering, what’s better than Shiro’s sushi? Nothing, that’s what.
According to the report by Urban Land Institute and PwC, Seattle is still ranked as one of the top real estate markets in the country. Coming in at number eight for real estate, fourth for investment, and third for development, our city is definitely on the move-to list. Our population has grown almost 7% over the last few years, which makes Seattle the fastest growing city in the nation.
What’s so attractive about this city? The report called Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2015, says Seattle is attracting investors because technology companies are growing and Millennials want to live here.
Seattle ranked third on the West Coast, only behind San Francisco and LA. Heads up Cali, we’re coming for you.
