#YourStoryIsOurStory: The Little Blue House

Originally posted August 15 2016, on the Windermere Blog by Shelley Rossi

It’s tough being a first time home buyer, especially in a fiercely competitive market like Seattle where multiple offers are the norm. Windermere clients Haley and Yash experienced this first hand when they started shopping for a home. With the help of their agent Elsa Nunes-Ueno, they found and fell in love with “the little blue house”. It had everything they were looking for, including the potential for them to fix it up and make it their own. But other bidders and a steep price increase threatened to get in their way. Just when it seemed that all hope was lost, Elsa went to bat for her clients and came up with a creative approach to make Haley and Yash’s dream of the little blue house a reality.

#YourStoryIsOurStory: How Windermere Cup Changed Jenni Hogan’s Life

Since 1987, Windermere Real Estate has partnered with the University of Washington to put on a one-of-a-kind rowing event called the Windermere Cup. For the last thirty years, Windermere and UW have brought some of the best rowers from around the world to Seattle to compete in this premier sporting event, and in the process, changed the course of some of the athlete’s lives.

Australian native, Jenni Hogan, is one of those athletes.

In 1997, Jenni was eighteen and selected to row for Australia’s Olympic Crew Team. She was competing in pairs at the time, but at the start of the Australian National Championship, her partner’s knee gave out, dashing her hopes of a chance at the Olympics.

But tragedy turned into opportunity when Jenni was asked to row with the Australian National Team at the 1997 Windermere Cup. She came to the University of Washington prepared to row, but the course of her life was changed forever.

During her visit, Jenni was offered – and accepted – a scholarship to the University of Washington, and went on to row in four more Windermere Cups as a UW Husky. But her story doesn’t end there. Jenni’s choice to stay in Seattle led to her meeting her husband, a successful media career, and eventually a growing family.

Jenni credits the Windermere Cup with changing the entire trajectory of her life. It also taught her that when one door closes, another one opens, and it could be even better than you planned.

“That one phone call to come to the Windermere Cup changed my life. What I thought was the worst moment of my life turned into something that has made my life so great.” –Jenni Hogan

#YourStoryIsOurStory: Starting from Scratch

Photo 1 (2)

Kate and Peter spend a lot of their free time on Whidbey Island, WA. In fact, Peter practically grew up there. The island holds special meaning to them and their relationship. It was the place Kate first met Peter’s family, where they were engaged and eventually married. For a couple renting a small apartment in downtown Seattle, Whidbey also offered a great escape from the city. So before they upgraded their city apartment to a city condo, they decided to invest in some land for their future vacation get-away and eventual retirement property.

Windermere Real Estate agent Linda Casale was the perfect person to help Kate and Peter through this unique journey of finding an undeveloped piece of land on an island in the middle of the Puget Sound. Soon enough weekends were spent driving from lot to lot, kicking the dirt and taking in the views. After about a month of searching, Kate and Peter came across a very special parcel that they knew right away was “the one”, and immediately started dreaming of the life and the home they would build on it. Linda guided them through the process, which is very different than buying a home, and included identifying the right companies to assess the land and provide quotes for future improvements.content_YSIOS_Kate

For Kate and Peter, finding a special place on Whidbey Island to call their own is an investment in their future together. While they don’t plan on living on Whidbey full-time just yet, they hope to build their dream home and plan for their future retirement in this special spot.

Bob and Gail have lived in the same house for 40 years. You’d think that a small one-level home with no yard or a condo would be their next step. Not for these two! They’ve dreamed of living in a big home on acreage. We just closed today on their dream home, which consists of 3,600+ square feet on 6 acres. They are excited to buy a riding mower and get to work in the yard. Just goes to show you, it’s never too late to live your dream! Of course their agent, Erin Mitchell Hoppe, had to buy them matching John Deere baseball caps. #YourStoryIsOurStory
